Ugyen Pelri Palace

The Ugyen Pelri Palace is situated in a secluded wooded compound just below the Rinpung Dzong on a flat piece of land beside the Pachu. The palace is designed after Guru Rinpoche’s celestial paradise, Zangto Pelri,for it is believed that the builder, Paro Penlop Tshering Penjor, saw himself as an embodiment of the great saint, Pema Lingpa.

The palace was designed and all the architectural details were supervised by Penlop himself and it is a real “masterpiece of design and decoration”.
